BarksBurg Dogs is a certified and insured dog training business that serves Blacksburg, Christiansburg, and other areas in the New River Valley.
BASIC MANNERS 1 -- Open to dogs and puppies 11 weeks and older at the start of class (puppies must have had their second round of Distemper (DHP) vaccinations by the start of class).
The owners will learn:
● clicker training basics
● management techniques
● tools to build a strong relationship of mutual respect with our canine companions
● important socialization information
Together we will teach the dogs:
● hand targeting
● "sit," "down," "stay"
● techniques to establish a reliable "come" command
● "leave it," “drop it”
● stop jumping on people
● loose leash walking
7 Weeks -- $110 payable the first night of class to the instructor, Stephanie Wilcke. Held at Flying Fur!
Summer Classes:
Mondays at 6:15PM for puppies under 1-year-old: June 12th - July 31st (No class on 7/3)
Thursdays at 6:15PM for dogs of all ages: June 15th - July 27th
Fall Classes:
Sundays at 3:15PM for dogs of all ages: September 10th – October 22nd
Sundays at 4:30PM for puppies under 6-months-old: September 10th – October 22nd
Mondays at 6:15PM for dogs under 1-year-old: September 11th – October 23rd
Thursdays at 6:15PM for dogs of all ages: September 14th – October 26th
BASIC MANNERS 2 -- Open to dogs and puppies 16 weeks and older at the start of class. This class is intended for those dog/owner teams that have already mastered “sit,” “down,” “stay” for short durations and short distances and have moderate leash control. This class does not address socialization for the dogs. We will build on the skills you and your dog learned in Basic Manners 1 and begin to add more distractions.
In this class, we will focus on:
● improving leash walking
● increasing distractions during “stay”
● building a reliable “come” in different environments
● strengthening various aspects of our friendly greetings
7 Weeks -- $90 payable the first night of class to the instructor, Stephanie Wilcke. Held at Flying Fur!
Summer Classes:
Mondays at 7:30PM for dogs of all ages: June 12th - July 31st (No class on 7/3) - CLASS FULL!
Thursdays at 7:30PM for dogs of all ages: June 15th - July 27th
Fall Classes:
Mondays at 7:30PM for dogs of all ages: September 11th – October 23rd
Thursdays at 7:30PM for dogs of all ages: September 14th – October 26th
Canine Good Citizen Prep Class & Test
5-week course with the test given on the last night of class
Held at Flying Fur, 8889 Virginia Avenue, Newport
